EXAMINE YOURSELF

EXAMINE YOURSELF

Text: 2 Corinthians 13:5 (KJV)

"Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?"

Introduction

Self-examination is a vital discipline in the life of every believer. It helps us to remain aligned with God’s will, grow spiritually, and avoid drifting away from the truth. A Christian who does not examine himself may unknowingly fall into spiritual complacency or deception.

Why Must You Examine Yourself?

To ensure you are in the faith
Christianity is not just by confession but by genuine relationship with Christ.

To test your spiritual condition
It helps you know whether you are growing, stagnant, or declining spiritually.

To identify areas for growth and improvement
No believer is perfect; self-examination reveals areas that need correction.

To avoid self-deception
Many think they are right with God when they are not.

To maintain spiritual vitality
Regular examination keeps your spiritual life active and healthy.

How to Examine Yourself

Reflect on your relationship with God
Are you still walking closely with Him?

Evaluate your thoughts, words, and actions
Do they align with God’s Word?

Consider godly counsel and feedback
Sometimes others can see what you cannot.

Measure your life by biblical standards
The Word of God is the true mirror.

Seek the Holy Spirit’s conviction and guidance
Allow Him to reveal hidden things in your heart.

Questions for Personal Examination

Do I truly believe in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior?

Am I living according to God’s Word?

Do I prioritize the Word of God, prayer, and worship?

Am I loving and serving others genuinely?

Do I exhibit the fruits of the Spirit?

Further Scriptural Insight

Revelation 2:4–5 (KJV)

"Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works..."

This passage reminds us of the church in Ephesus that lost its first love.

Reflection:
Brethren, can this be said of you today?
Do you remember when you first loved Christ—your passion for prayer, your hunger for the Word, your zeal for holiness?

Are you still that brother or sister who was deeply committed to God?

James 1:22–25 (KJV)

"But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves..."

This scripture teaches that the Word of God is like a mirror. It shows us who we truly are.

A hearer without obedience forgets what he has seen.

But a doer of the Word is blessed.

Application

Examine where you have fallen

Return to your first love

Be intentional about obeying God’s Word

Renew your commitment to Christ daily

Conclusion

Self-examination is not meant to condemn but to restore. It is a call to realign with God and live a victorious Christian life.

Call to Action

Be Saved

If you discover that your life is not aligned with Christ, today is the day to return to Him. Repent, surrender your life, and renew your walk with God.

What took me to Ori Oke for seven days was the encounter with Apostle Joseph Babalola

*Baba Adeboye said he had an encounter where he drank tea with God and many made mockery of it on social media,*

*What took me to Ori Oke for seven days was the encounter with Apostle Joseph Babalola,*

*His encounters are still unexplainable till today, it takes a spiritual mind to understand what he experienced,*

*How do you explain a python roasted to death by the high spiritual current running through his body?*

*How do you explain the feet of angels physically seen on his altar of prayer?*

*How do you explain him kneeling down and praying until his knees pierced the mountains physically?*

*How do you explain him standing for 72 hours, three whole days praying?*

*If you know spiritual things, you will know that encounters are normal things to a spiritual person but there are higher realms.*

*.....A carnal mind cannot understand the things of the spirit.*

*We may have two hands, two legs, two ears, and one head but let it be known to you that men are not the same.*

*Encounters are not birthed on social media, they are birthed in the secret place.*

*You want to explain how a man drank tea with Jesus, no problem you can go ahead and prove him wrong.*
*But before you go, let me give you more things to explain,*

*Can you explain how Jesus walked on water?*

*Can you explain how Peter's Shadow healed the sick?*

*Can you explain how Peter came out of prison yet the soldiers with him in the same prison cannot explain how he left?*

*When a generation walks away from God, spiritual things become a joke to them.*

Take it to God in prayer

Take it to God in prayer

 1 Peter 5:7

Casting all your care upon him; for he cares for you.

*How do you cast your care upon God?*

1. Surrendering worries and concerns to God.

2. Trusting God's sovereignty and control.

3. Releasing burdens to God's capable hands.

4. Seeking God's guidance and wisdom.

5. Acknowledging God's love and care.

Because he cares for you, make a good use of time today to pray.

Let sing this hymn together,:

What a friend we have in Jesus

All our sins and griefs to bear

What a privilege to carry

Everything to God in prayer

O what peace we often forfeit

O what needless pain we bear

All because we do not carry

Everything to God in prayer

Have we trials and temptations?

Is there trouble anywhere?

We should never be discouraged

Take it to the Lord in prayer

Can we find a friend so faithful

Who will all our sorrows share?

Jesus knows our every weakness

Take it to the Lord in prayer

As you take it to God Almighty today in prayer, you will see result in Jesus name.

Does the group(s) you belong encourage the spiritual growth of the Church, Pastor and other members of the Church? Let your light so shine, for men to see your good works, and glorify your Father (God) which is in heaven. Matt 5:16
